Impact of the designation of Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark (CPUGGp) on space utilisation in Ciemas District, Sukabumi Regency, Indonesia

The designation of Ciemas District as part of the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark (CPUGGp) has had an
impact on land-use changes. Ciemas District has become a new growth center that attracts and increases the number of visitors.
Therefore, land-use must be in harmony with spatial patterns and provide protection for its primary function as a conservation
area. The objectives of this research are: 1) To analyze land-use changes in Ciemas District after the designation of the
CPUGGp; 2) To predict land-use changes until the year 2043; 3) To analyze the suitability of land-use with the Regional Spatial
Plan (RTRW) of Sukabumi Regency for the years 2023–2043 in Ciemas District; and 4) To formulate directions for improving
the Spatial Pattern of the RTRW of Sukabumi Regency. The data analysis techniques consist of land-use change analysis using
GIS overlay and land-use prediction using CA-Markov. The results of the land-use/land cover change analysis for the 2015–2019
period show that an area of 23,912.16 Ha (75%) remained unchanged, while an area of 8,006.54 Ha (25%) changed. The
land-use/land cover change for the 2019 to 2023 period shows that an area of 30,893.63 Ha (97%) remained unchanged, and an
area of 1,025.52 Ha (3%) changed. The land-use prediction for the year 2043 is dominated by Open Land and Plantations.
Residential areas and Activity Centers continue to increase, while Forested Areas continue to decrease. The alignment of land-use
with the RTRW Spatial Plan shows results of 77.14% consistent, 4.86% transitional, and 11.85% inconsistent. The directions for
improving the RTRW Spatial Plan are to continue appropriate land-use/land cover, direct transitions to align with the RTRW
Spatial Plan, and address inconsistencies, particularly in existing Settlements and Activity Areas (Tourism and Industry), to be
accommodated in the upcoming revision process of the Sukabumi Regency RTRW Spatial Plan.
